Pawn & Co

Pawn & Co is very popular nightclub just off the main road of Chapel St. Notably, Pawn & Co is decorated with vintage memorabilia and odd retro pop culture symbolism. From inception in late 2012, Pawn & Co hit the ground running with significant culture websites adding it to those classic articles like "top 5 new bars you must try". This is largely due to the unique aesthetic and quirky branding of a pawn shop. Pawn & Co has two levels and a number of eclectic little features. As you walk in, hidden in plain sight, is the smoker's area. One of the great smoker's areas. The dance floor on ground level is pretty simple with a DJ booth on the right, bar on the far side and the 2 toilets (which always has a line) to the left of the bar. A great aspect of the ground level is the carriage/booth area to the left of the dance floor. Carriage is the correct word, imagine the train scenes in the 1st Harry Potter film when they are on their way to Hogwarts. Pawn & Co Upstairs has two seated sections on either side of the dance floor, which are slightly raised. In the middle of the dance floor towards the back is a reasonably large birdcage. The DJ area is surrounded by plants and is at the same level as the crowd. The music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Pawn & Co is fairly reliable. Typically on the house side of the house and techno scale. There will usually be a well known pop or electronic song chucked in the mix. However on Thursdays, there is often more younger and up and coming DJs and one or two more established DJs. These younger DJs earlier in the night tend to experiment with different styles and tempos while they are still finding their identity. Thursday is the uni and school night and is promoted by "Flash". Flash Thursdays at Pawn & Co are very popular amongst the private school crowd of south and south east of Melbourne. Expect long lines at 11/11:30pm. This is because only the top level is open, and squeezing everyone upstairs means that it goes off off pretty much every week. Fridays are still a relatively young crowd, 19-24 years old. It usually picks up around 11/11:30pm. Saturdays are slightly older 21-28 year olds. Similarly picks up at 10:30/11pm.
