The Lucky Coq is a restaurant during the week known for cheap pizzas ($4 in early days), that turns into pseudo nightclub on Fridays and Saturdays. Lucky Coq opened in 2006 and is a young person's favourite for cheap food and free entry. Lucky Coq has a some quirky design features including the DJ booths being a miniature comvy van upstairs and a another type of car on the ground level. There's a nice smoker's area upstairs, with glass walls and square seats. Thursdays is used as more of a pre's venue, where uni and school students come in for cheap drinks and food. Lucky Coq rarely develops into a fully fledged dance floor. On Fridays, Lucky Coq is mostly 18-26 year olds and is unlikely to reach capacity, but does get busyish and sometimes busy. Lucky Coq on a Saturday absolutely pumps. It is still quite young, 18-23yo for the most part. It is packed early and regularly gets long lines. Downstairs is usually a mix of Party Anthems, RnB, Singalongs and Light House music. Upstairs is more of a house techno vibe, and sits on the side of upbeat and feel good. On the occasion, Lucky Coq hosts a Saturday Day Party. The promoter's that run it often play house disco and house funk. It is always free entry and rarely reaches capacity.
