Circus is one of the most popular late night venues on Chapel St and in Melbourne. Established in 2005, Circus made a name for itself throwing consistent Sunday Night events, which is still going today. The owners of Circus have relations with Electric and other Chapel St venues and is often used as a after party venue. ‍ Space Ground Level is pretty simple; a long narrow room with a bar and booth section that leads into a Dance Floor then the bathrooms behind the DJ area. However, there are two small rooms near the entrance early side on the room. The one on the left is a little secret room with no door handle on the outside, and if you've managed to somehow organise that room, it can be annoying when you need to knock everytime you want to go in. The other area is a bit more open and is a booth separated by a curtain. The best part of the dance floor is the raised sections on either side gives the small dance floor some depth. ‍ Go up the stairs to the rooftop level, where it is also a pretty simple lay out. A long rectangle with bleacher style sitting area and booths and benches on the other side. Circus Rooftop also has one of the great retractable roofs, used regularly for day parties. When it's not a day party dance floor, the rooftop is a phenomenal smoker's area. It is very sociable and can be hard to leave. The smoker's also has a bar. ‍ Music Circus Bar is typically house and techno with minimal lyrics. ‍ Seeing Double are promoters that run Circus on a Friday and play house and techno music. They get a range of headliners from local legends and up and coming DJs making a name for themselves. ‍ Saturdays on the rare occasion get a international DJ, but for the most part, Circus Saturdays see Chapel St regulars such as Lucca Tan, Rob Anthony and Nick Young, Kelly Tee, Sasha Fern, Sean Rault, Oliver James, Danni B, Liam Waller, Joey Coco, Casey Leaver and more. ‍ Sundays, hosted by Ethan Mclaren (JMCee), sees a range of internationals and locals. JMCee invites many Chapel St regulars to play the famous Circus Sundays. ‍ Crowd Circus is the late night after party venue to surrounding venues such as Pawn & Co, Electric and the Emerson. ‍ Circus has a looser guestlist policy than Electric, in that, the security guards have more of discretion when the guestlist applies. They use the guestlist card when big groups of guys rock up or it is already busy inside, however they relax the guestlist card when it is quieter than usual. To get on the guest list, you likely have to know people promoting the night, know the DJ, know the owners or go there frequently. Alternatively, females can pass through the guestlist to make the sex ratio more even. ‍ On a Sunday and at day parties, the guestlist situation is significantly more relaxed. Most weekends, the guestlist card isn't played during those times. ‍ On a Friday, Saturday and Sunday there are no discernable characterics of the crowd other than they are usually pretty well dressed, without being pretentious, and isn't usually much trouble.
